Bezwstydny urok anatomii – szkic o dziejach modeli woskowych

Abstrakt

Artykuł poświęcony jest historii anatomicznych modeli woskowych powstających w XVIII i XIX w. Obiekty te zajmowały osobliwe miejsce na przecięciu sztuki i medycyny, co miało istotne znaczenie dla sposobu, w jaki postrzegali je lekarze oraz przeciętni odbiorcy. Podwójny status modeli anatomicznych będących i narzędziami dydaktycznymi, i dziełami artystycznymi znalazł swoje odzwierciedlenie w sposobie ich traktowania: budziły zachwyt, ale jednocześnie uznawano je za obsceniczne.
Zrekonstruowana w artykule historia powstania oraz przemian, jakim podlegała sztuka modelatorska, pozwala na uchwycenie zagadkowego statusu modeli anatomicznych, a także na wydobycie filozoficznych i estetycznych aspektów sztuki modelatorskiej.
