Abstract

Since 2017, in Mozambique, in the province of Cabo Delgado, we have been observing the activation of jihadist activities and numerous acts of violence against both government forces and civilians. The article presents the conditions and nature of threats created by the jihadist insurgency in this region, as well as national and international efforts aimed at stopping the escalation of violence and neutralising these challenges. In this context, the analysis focuses in particular on showing the military involvement of African states in the province of Cabo Delgado. The article presents the balance of these efforts to date. The main finding resulting from this analysis is to show the relationship between the dysfunctionality of the state and socio-economic catalysts and the development of factors conducive to accession to terrorist and subversive groups. Without the involvement of international entities, the Mozambican authorities have not been able to deal with this problem so far.
