Abstract

The media in Uzbekistan, alongside changes related to the political situation in the country, are undergoing two processes. The first concerns the media worldwide: the gradual decline of print media in favor of online publications. In Uzbekistan the number of internet and social media users is growing. The second is the gradual transition of the Uzbek language from the Cyrillic to the Latin alphabet, which is the result of decisions by the authorities. At the same time, publications in Russian are being preserved. Although ethnic Russians are few, long-term Russification has meant that many Uzbeks use Russian on a daily basis.
