The debate on BRICS expansion has been ongoing for many years. During the BRICS summit in Johannesburg on August 22–24, 2023, the decision was made to expand to include six new countries, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It’s membership in BRICS carries numerous geopolitical and economic implications for both the UAE and the international system. Abu Dhabi perceives BRICS as an opportunity to expand its influence and economic potential, thus strengthening its great power ambitions. The main goal of this article is to identify the geopolitical and economic implications of the UAE’s membership in BRICS. It opens up broad prospects for Abu Dhabi to enhance its position on the international stage and also addresses the challenges the UAE has previously faced.
