The aim of the article is to present the party-forming function of the presidential elections in Poland. From the perspective of evidence of the cartelization of the Polish party system, this analysis points to presidential elections as a political structure of opportunity. It is then treated as a political opportunity, thanks to which new entities may appear on the political scene. The basis for building a new political formation in this case is a good election result obtained by a candidate for the office of President. The result then serves as the initial capital. It can therefore be assumed that presidential elections become an extraordinary opportunity for individual politicians to emerge first and then their future formations.
