The Russian invasion of Ukraine prompted an above-average number of foreign nationals to join volunteer efforts on both sides of the conflict. Using the desk research method, the author collected detailed data on nearly one hundred German citizens participating in the war in Ukraine. This data allowed him to characterise the involvement of German volunteers, particularly in terms of their numbers and the motivations they reported.
