Author Biography
Full professor of humanities, historian and political scientist. Graduate of the Faculty of History at the University of Warsaw, since 1973 a research worker at the Polish Academy of Sciences. At the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences since 1990; from 2001 to 2004 deputy director for scientific affairs, and from 2004 to 2012 director of the Institute. Head of the Department of History of Eastern Europe at the Institute of History of the University of Lodz (1990–2004). Specialist in the history of the Soviet Union and Polish-Soviet relations, the history of Georgia, the South Caucasus, and the Baltic republics, as well as international collective security institutions and the transformation of the post-Soviet region after 1991. Author or co-author of approximately 600 scientific works, including over 30 books. Editor of numerous source publications, including scientific secretary of the four-volume edition Katyn. Documents of the Crime (1995–2005). Member of the Historical Commission of the Polish-Georgian Committee.
