The public debate concerning Ukrainians in Poland was long linked to economic immigration. The escalation of Russia’s war with Ukraine caused many refugees from Ukraine to seek refuge in Poland. The aim of this study is to present the images of refugees emerging from the debate on Facebook groups focused on helping them. These images are contrasted with research conducted to date so as to compare how they have changed. CrowdTangle was used to collect the research material, followed by Atlas.ti for thematic analysis. The results are framed in three main themes, concerning the heroism of those fighting in Ukraine, the gender of the refugees, and their sense of entitlement. These images are strongly linked to social gender roles, and present positive attitudes towards Ukrainians. However, the sense of entitlement attributed to some refugee women, often linked to economic aspects, contributes to them being perceived negatively in Polish society.
