This analysis aims to present the current state and course of the debate on the possible ban of the Alternative for Germany Party (AfD). The article presents the arguments of the opponents and supporters of the AfD ban, taking into account the specific circumstances at both the federal and state level. The analysis refers to the legal criteria allowing for the banning of a political party under the German Basic Law and examples of similar procedures known from German history. In the article we also describe the complexity of the relationship between the AfD and the CDU and, in this context, the specificity of the term 'Brandmauer' (Firewall)
