Abstract

The energy sector of the Russian Federation is associated with two large state-owned corporations - Gazprom and Rosneft. With their help, the Kremlin has so far successfully conducted its foreign policy towards the West and the post-Soviet space. However, apart from the oil and gas sector, the Russian Federation has a well-developed nuclear energy sector. It is headed by the state corporation Rosatom. Comprehensive customer service and the business model chosen by the Russians allowed Rosatom to occupy a leading position in the global nuclear energy market. The dynamic expansion of Rosatom into foreign markets observed in recent years and the prospect of an increase in the number of Russian reactors on the world market have raised concerns among some Western experts. They consider the Russian nuclear company to be another tool of Russia to conduct foreign policy. This article analyzes the potential of Russia's nuclear energy sector and whether it is being used by Moscow to achieve political advantage.
