Abstract

After invading Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Russia faces unprecedented western economic sanctions. Since the beginning of the war, the EU has introduced nine sanction packages against Russia, hoping to cause turbulence in the Russian financial sector, in trade, logistics and energy cooperation. In addition to the EU, the US also introduced a number of economic restrictions against Russia. With Western economic sanctions in force and prolonged, we can expect that the macroeconomic indicators of the Russian Federation will deteriorate year by year, and the country will plunge into a multi-year crisis. The poorest countries in the South Caucasus and Central Asia, critically dependent on Russian economic support, have found themselves in a difficult economic situation. This article analyzes the impact of anti-Russian sanctions on the socio-economic situation of the Republic of Armenia.
