The article deals with the volume of poetry by Tomasz Bąk, XXI. Naked Aquarius in Downtown (2021). The author reads the volume as an encrypted attempt to escape capitalist realism, the pretext for which is a narrative on one of the aspects of the climate catastrophe, namely sea level rise. Bąk seems to treat that “flood” as a kind of intervention of the Real, which breaks more and more through the cracks of capitalist reality principle. Bąk’s poetic strategy is to keep on finding these kinds of cracks right in the middle of capitalist realism and to do the work of mourning after the world that has already ended.
