Abstract

The author accepts the fairly obvious assumption that visual depictions we create are at least in part a reflection of our own way of understanding, interpreting and imagining a given subject. Her aim is to describe two possible ways of depicting the Other, for which she has used the accepted term “strategy of untouchableness” and “strategy of intimacy”. These two seem to be so distinct so as to make two completely different approaches to Otherness possible.
