This review article discusses Alexandria N. Ruble's monograph, Entangled Emancipation: Women's Rights in Cold War Germany, published in Toronto in 2023. It revisits the most important assumptions and stages of the modernization of family law in the field of women's equality in East and West Germany after World War II. Primarily, it explores the book Entangled Emancipation, in which the author reconstructs the history of the struggle for women's legal and de facto equality in both German states from a comparative and interdisciplinary gender studies perspective, outlining the development of family law and the different models of women's emancipation in both German states, placing them within the context of Cold War rivalry.
