The goal of this article is analysis of the perception and support for the activities of
the Alternative for Germany (AfD) in Brandenburg through the submitted postulates,
represented attitudes, program documents, and the activity of politicians. The reasons
for defi ning AfD as a conservative protest and movement party as well as a populist
and radical group were analyzed. The AfD's opposition to the policies of the SPD,
CDU and Greens coalition triggered reactions and actions of political and social actors
in Brandenburg, proving the evolution of political culture in Germany and infl uencing
the perception of sustainable development, the functioning of democracy and refl ecting
a heated debate on the ongoing multi-faceted transformation of social and economic life
in Europe.
