Abstract

The main focus of the research is the evolution of EU’s international identity with the organisation confronted with a war as a permanent fixture in its closest neighbourhood. EU defined itself primarily as a peace and norm promoter, transcending traditional instruments of power and conflict. EU is on a steep learning curve to adapt and make geopolitics a permanent element of its policy. Author suggests that the adaptation potential of the EU is greater that the observers suggested, the EU institutions don’t have a problem with thinking geopolitically. War as a one of the crises brought unity although the consequences of the decision to oppose Russian aggression are not fully internalised.
