This article attempts a contemporary perspective on the extensive qualitative studies into the life styles of urban families directed by Andrzej Siciński in the 1970s. The author describes in retrospect the historical and theoretical context of the studies, the methodology used, and the manner of their realization in the field. She analyses the nature and use of the material collected and considers its potential for reutilization.
