This article focuses on NATO’s Eastern Flank. It addresses the identified research gap in literature concerning the insufficient conceptualisation of NATO’s Eastern Flank. Specifically, the authors attempt to answer two fundamental questions: what geographical area constitutes NATO’s Eastern Flank, and which member states should be considered part of it? The analysis adopts a geopolitical perspective, with particular consideration of the concept of geopolitical codes. In so doing, it provides an answer to the question of whether international organisations are capable of defining geopolitical codes. Consequently, it brings a supplementary value to the theoretical field by establishing a framework for the analysis of geopolitical codes created by international organisations.
