Abstract

On February 24, 2022, the international community was shocked by the information about the aggression of the Russian Federation against a sovereign state, Ukraine. The decision made in the Kremlin had significant implications for international relations, the economic and social situation of the following months. The conflict in Ukraine led many countries to reflect on finding their role in the new reality and choosing the right path – cooperation with the attacked country or support for the aggressor.
The aim of the article is to analyze the position and actions taken by the United States towards the war in Ukraine. The article adopts research methods based on qualitative and critical analysis of texts. The following research questions will enable the achievement of the intended goal: How were American-Ukrainian relations shaped before the Russian armed aggression against Ukraine? What attitudes were presented by the United States towards the war in Ukraine? What form did American aid take? No less important is the question of whether the United States’ involvement in the war in Ukraine should be treated as a fulfillment of obligations or as a dimension of rivalry with the Russian Federation and a desire to emphasize its great power position.
