Alain Touraine arrived in Poland in 1981 with a theoretically elaborated and empirically tested research programme. He engaged a few young Polish sociologists to his research group. The team members had an opportunity — both during the research and later in 1980s when they visited him in France — to get to know his sociology of new social movements. The article is an attempt to show how the experience of contact with the French sociologist was inscribed in changes which took place in Polish sociology and which were named “the antipositivist turn”.
