In anthropology, sensibility is one of the key features that allow practicing the discipline. Anthropologists constantly listen to the pulse of social life and vigilantly look out for its new forms and meanings. The sensibilities of anthropological theories are changing, their lens is transforming and it begins to capture those aspects of reality that were previously invisible or perceived as unimportant. Changes in sensibility take place in the methodology of anthropological research. New sensibilities of anthropology also result from its openness to broadly understood political transformations related to decolonization or social crises.

The proposed thematic issue of “Culture and Society” called “Biographical Method in the Social Sciences. Trends and Controversies” is a response to the ongoing discussions in the community of researchers dealing with personal documents regarding the understanding of epistemological-ontological bases, theoretical approaches, creative transformations of data collection techniques and analytical tools, but also ethical issues.

In this issue of “Kultura i Społeczeństwo” we would like to address the issue of symbolic boundaries in social communication. We are interested in both theoretical articles and empirical studies of public and private discourse. We are also waiting for texts that reflect on the subject of communication research itself in its various forms. The editors of the issue are Jerzy Stachowiak (University of Lodz) and Adam Konopka (University of Gdańsk).

We invite researchers to submit articles for a special issue of our journal devoted to the concept of vulnerability. This concept is becoming more and more popular in social research, but it is ambiguous, used inconsistently and interpreted in various ways. It becomes all the more important to determine the meaning of this term in sociological sciences and related disciplines.

We invite you to submit articles for the upcoming issue of our journal, where we will focus on reflections on the concept of well-being. The deadline for submissions is April 15, 2024. In the 7th edition of the Competition, the award for "an outstanding author's scientific work in the social sciences on the problems of poverty and the resulting social exclusion" went to Agnieszka Witkowska-Krych for her book entitled. "Dziecko wobec zagłady. Institutional care for orphans in the Warsaw Ghetto', published in 2022 by the Jewish Historical Institute.

In the planned issue of “Culture and Society,” we would like to consider topics related to the transformations of symbolic power and changes of its holders. Please submit texts by January 15, 2024.

Robert Traba otrzymał doktorat honoris causa Martin-Luther-Universität w Halle-Wittenberdze - najwyższą godność w naszej akademickiej pracy. Wręczenie doktoratu nastąpi 28 czerwca 2023 w Halle. Podczas tej podniosłej uroczystość prof. Traba wygłosi wykłąd pt. "Sukcesja kulturowa. Dlaczego (nie) potrzebujemy niechcianego dziedzictwa kulturowego"?

W liście Dziekana, prof. Andreasa Pečara informującym prof. Roberta Trabę o nadaniu doktoratu honorowego czytamy:  "Wydział Humanistyczny I: Nauki społeczne i historyczne nauki o kulturze Uniwersytetu Marcina Lutra w Halle-Wittenberdze decyzją Rady Wydziału, na wniosek Instytutu Historii, w dniu 19 kwietnia 2023 roku podjął decyzję o nadaniu Panu tytułu doktora honoris causa. Chciałbym pogratulować Panu w imieniu całego wydziału i złożyć moje szczere gratulacje. Honorujemy Pana za pracę nad metodologią i badaniami empirycznymi w zakresie transnarodowej historii wzajemnych oddziaływań [crossed history] oraz za osiągnięcia w krytycznym badaniu europejskich kultur i praktyk pamięci".

We invite you to submit texts until the end of March 2023. Due to the extension of the deadline for the call, we plan to publish the issue in 2024.

The editors of Culture and Society are extending the deadline for the submission of texts until January 31, 2023.

We invite authors to contribute to an issue devoted to topics related to war, refugees and social reactions to them, as well as social, population, identity and memory policies carried out both before and after February 24, 2022, by countries directly involved in the conflict (Ukraine, Russia, Belarus), "frontline" (Poland, the Baltic States, Moldova) and other European countries.

The winner of the VI Edition of the Competition for the Prof. Elżbieta Tarkowska Award is Beata Szluz, PhD, for her book entitled "'Przez zamknięte okno ganku” Opieka nad osobą z chorobą Alzheimera w biografiach opiekunów rodzinnych" published by the University of Rzeszow Publishing House in 2021.
